Past, Present, and Future

My blogging has been a little abnormal since I got home last Thursday. Some days I don't do anything, some days a lot. Which is good in some ways, I guess. I get back to school Monday night and after that things should get back to normal.
Some things to expect:
** The return of Daily Thanksgivings, Wed. Word, Fri. Five, etc
** A change in my website (my blog will move to my index page)
** If I can figure it out some changes in my template

This is all of course counts on the fact that my computer is going to live (it's been a pain in the rear).
Ok, this is probably all you'll hear from me for a few days. Alexis gets home in a few hours :-D

Silly Rules

I was just looking at the Kokosing site after posting it and found the rules humorous.

I especially like the second and last ones. Don't be a litterbug!

Balancing Act

I got a bike today. I don't know if I've ridden a bike since I got my driver's license. I'm a bit shakey. I also got a bike rack for the Stang so Alexis and I can have our bikes at school and we can go here.

3.29.2002

Finally

Alexis gets home tomorrow. I'll get to see her for the first time in nine days.

I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

3.28.2002

No no not the drill!

Yes... the drill... I went to the dentist today and I have THREE FREAKIN CAVITIES! I never had any before I had braces, since then I've had like a dozen. It sucks. They're all between my teeth where I couldn't get to when I had braces. So for you all you braces wearers, floss as best you can!

3.27.2002

Stink

I can't see comments here either. On my site or Tiff's and we use the same people. Is it just the computers I've tried? Can someone e-mail me and let me know if they can see them or not?

Back to the old name

I decided to go back to my original name because as some of you may have noticed, Alexis hasn't posted anything yet. So I think this is more accurate. She still has access to it and everything so if she decides to start posting, I'll change it back.

Bummer

I found out since I'm HTML illiterate and use blogger.com to do my whole thing, the thing on the side can only be like 500 characters because I use the little description block thing. So that means if I want more, I need to learn how to put things on the sidebar myself in the template. Anyone care to share some hints?

Code Breaker on the Lose

That's right, I have discovered the secret to starting a new line in HTML. The long disguised BR code. Ha ha ha! The world is mine! Ok, maybe not, but at least I can have handy dandy links of other web sites on the right over there

Some More Post Oscar Side Notes

I just saw Hally Berry's acceptance speech was 520 words. Our newspaper has a 500 word minimum for an article. Jeez...

Also, Roger Ebert was on Leno last night and he said that Jim Broadbent who won for best supporting actor really won it for his performance in Moulin Rouge even though he was nominated and won for Iris. I like that idea.

Too Good

I'm watching Moulin Rouge. I love this movie.

No, you're not a cross-dresser. You're just the odd-shaped 80's lego man! You love the classic legos, and you're not into all these new-fangled expensive kits. Why settle for the new when the old is just as good, and far less expensive!

Mixed Emotions

I was supposed to work 8:30-5:30 at Wooster Public Library today, but because of the snow (the library is closed until noon, I am not.

This is good because:
I didn't feel like working at wooster
I have more time to do homework
I don't have to venture the snow in my Mustang
I have one more day off, making it more of a break (if it can't be spring, I should at least get a break)

This is bad because:
I could have used the $$$
I'll be in the house for the 3rd straight day
I got up at 7am for nothing
I have to face my homework now.

So, I'm torn whether to be happy or sad.

Monday at the Movies: Memento leaves too many questions

Memento is a Pulp Fiction wanna-be starring Guy Pearce (Madonna's hubby) and two Matrix alumnists (Carrie-Anne Moss and the bald, bad, pirate lookin' guy, I don't feel like looking up his name). I really wasn't that impressed. It takes Leonard (Pearce) and his story of losing his short term memory from one point and works from the end backward and from the beggining forward at the same time using b&w and color to distiguish. At the end it meets in the middle. Like I said, it tries to be like Pulp Fiction, mixing things up, but it doesn't work. At the end I was still confused about a lot of things. In movies like this, everything should make sense at the end. I had to go back through the film and try to figure some stuff out again. That shouldn't have to happen. Momento had been up for
Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing at last nights Oscars and won neither. Good, it shouldn't have. The screenplay wasn't well done and the editing, while some was good, wasn't Oscar quality. I was doing some homework every now and then, so maybe I missed a key element or two but I thought I was paying close enough attention. But there is that small chance, so I'm giving it: :-|

Monday at the Movies: Opening Act

Since usually watch at least one (if not four or five, lol) movies over the weekend, I thought I'd start doing some reviews on Monday. I'm starting Memento right now, so that will be my first review.

*** At the end of writing the Memento review I realized I need a rating system. I'm going with the internet friendly e-motions
Tremendous = :-D
Good = :-)
Eh.. it was ok = :-|
Lacking much = :-(
They call this a movie? = :-p

Also, feel free to leave your thoughts on the movies

Reviewing Oscar

I'm depressed.
1) Russell Crowe without Best Actor?? Come on! A Beautiful Mind won best picture and Crowe's AMAZING performance is what carried the film. I loved the film, I loved his performance. He deserved the trophy.
2) What happened to cutting off the speeches after so long? Halle "Cryin' Screamin' and Yellin'" Berry needed to be restrained. Yeah, she was the first black winner of Best Supporting Actress but jeez. You're an actor Halle, act like you're normal.
3) I think Nicole Kidman's (what I consider) breakout performance in Moulin Rouge deserved the Oscar, but I didn't see Berry's film. I doubt she showed the range of emotions and sang like Nicole though.
4) What was with the circus people? Nuff said.
5) Whoopi, big whoop. She didn't do that great of a job in my opinion.
6) Here's the thing that bugged me the most. Every time Lord of the Rings was mentioned they had to say "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings" the show was long enough without saying that 20 times.
7) The Lifetime and Humanitarian Awards took way too long
8) I know I might be alone on this but... was it just me or was 9/11 mentioned WAY too much?

I'm impressed.
1) I new Lord of the Rings wouldn't go without some awards, I'm glad they got the ones they did. I can see them deserving those.
2) That theatre was incredible! I love it!
3) Moulin Rouge did get some awards they very highly deserved.
4) Beatiful Mind did take four, including two of the big ones. Not some of the less-important ones that LOTR's got.
5) It was so great to see the Nash's there. I was very pleased with that.
6) Even though Crowe should have won, I was very happy with Denzel's opening remarks "God is good. God is great. Etc" Too many of those actors took everything for themselves (cough cough Hally Berry cough cough) It was nice to see one (Ron Howard did at the end) mention God.

3.24.2002

Oscar Night

I'm going to get to watch the entire Oscar ceremony for the first time in my life. I've very exciting.

And just so you know, it's not because of who wins. Moulin Rouge has tied A Beautiful Mind for my favorite movie of all time. I've been meaning to change that on my bio page. I just wanted to get that out before we see who the academy picks. If they don't pick one of those, I'll be extremely upset.

March Madness at it's finest

Oregon looked horrible today. They were way too selfish.
Kudos to Maryland!!!! Although UConn played an amazing game, my pick to win it all prevailed.
It should be an incredible final four.

Spring Break Update

As you can tell, I haven't had much to blog about so far over spring break. I've spent a lot of time vegging (which my mind really needed) and some quality time with friends (chris, terri, miller, tracy, craig, ben, travis, etc). Some other notes:

- That Sobe Adreneline Rush I mentioned before made me incredibly sick. It sped my heart rate up about double time (I could feel it beating all day), the taste made me sick to my stomach, and all the built up energy released itself through heat through my neck. I ended up getting so sick I had to leave Alexis' after about 45 minutes that night so I hardly spent any time with her before she left for Florida :-(

- I went with Chris, Terri, Craig, and Matt Miller to a Sadar (Sader something like that) last night. It's like a Jewish passover meal. It was highly interesting and informative but I whish I would have known we wouldn't get to the food until 2+ hours into the thing.

- I am now sick with a harsh cold which I think I acquired from Terri who got it from Chris who got it from Craig who got it from his mom. Matt Miller beware, you might be next.

- I have to start my homework tomorrow :-p

- As a homework break project, I'm going to try and get my page moved around to a more user friendly format. The only problem is I'll have to do it on my parents computer, so I don't know if I'll get it done or not. I might do it in my room and get it all uploaded and such when I get back to school.

- I miss Alexis.

Friday Five

It just occured to me that it's friday. So here is my Friday Five.

1. What is your favorite time of year? Spring. Then Fall, Summer and Winter

2. What is it about your favorite season that, well, makes it your favorite season? I don't like to be too hot or too cold and Spring is (supposed to be) right in the middle. Also with spring you can go from 60 or 70 degree weather to snow and get the a nice variation. I like variety.

3. What is your least favorite time of year? Why? Winter. Even though Christmas is in there, I get cabin fever pretty easily. Although I do love snow.

4. Do you do anything to celebrate or recognize the changing of seasons? nope, I didn't even know yesterday was the first day of spring until someone told me at like 3pm

5. What's your favorite thing to do outside? Walks (or anything else) with Alexis, baseball, and basketball

Comments

Well now that I'm home for spring break on my parents SSSnet cable modem, I'm having the same problem chuck does. I can't see anything from YCCSS. So I won't be able to see any comments until I go into work next week.

3.21.2002

Silly Me

I thought I was going on SPRING break. But apparently, from the look of the snow and the feel of the wind it's Christmas break. I hope I have presents at home...

By the way, anyone have an extra seat headed towards a warm climate?

Idenity Crisis

With an 8am class every M-W-F this semester, I've gotten used to getting up early. This morning I got up at 9 when I don't have class until 11:30. I usually get up at 11 on tuesday and thursday. I don't think this is a good thing. I am by nature a night person, I don't go to bed until like 1 sometimes 2 or 3 or... yeah. It can't be good to be a night owl and adding a quasi-morning person status to that. Mostly because I can't take naps. I had a Sobe Adrenaline Rush this morning. It wasn't the tastiest thing in the world, but hopefully it will keep me going.

Daily Thanksgiving - Wednesday March 20, 2002

Thank you Lord for rain. It's can be a lot of fun to walk in and we wouldn't have beautiful plant life without it.
Thank you to the little boy (about 5ish) who was eating spaghetti in the cafeteria tonight. You are too cute.

For those who missed it (everyone buy Alexis and me, pretty much) this kid was hanging the speghetti one piece at a time above his head. Since his arm wasn't as long as the speghetti, it would hit his chin, then he would start swinging the speghetti and moving his head to try and connect the pasta to his mouth. Then he decided to use a fork and put a big wad of speghetti in his mouth and then pushed the remaining length in with his hands. It was great. I love kids.

Spring What?

I need a T-shirt that says "No, I am not ready for spring break" I have 7 or 8 school projects to do over "break" and I'm supposed to work..... :-p

NCAA Tourney

Well after a wild first couple of rounds, I'm tied for first in my friends league (6 people, 6 bucks, woo hoo!) and I am in 2nd by one point in the guy's apartment league (about 70 people 1-5 place gets a prize). Unfortunatly, I had Cincy in the final four in both of them. But I have Maryland in the first and Duke in the second hopefully I'll at least win one!

3.17.2002

Daily Thanksgiving - Sunday March 17, 2002

Thank you God for Spring weather.
Thank you to my family for coming down and taking us to dinner tonight.

Movie Review Time :-)

Shrek + Monsters INC.+ The Emporer's New Groove + The Lion King + a lot of bits and pieces of other movies = The completly unoriginal plot of Ice Age. The only original part of this movie was putting them in the Ice Age. I did however enjoy the movie. I never mind a kids movie to lighten the load of all the sex and violence in other movies. So, I'd give it one thumb up.
One side note, one of the main characters, a mammoth was named Manny. I kept expecting him to leave the film and sign with the Stone Age for more money. (that's for all you tribe fans out there)

3.15.2002

Friday Five

Here it is folks, the Friday Five.

1. What's your favorite animal? Felines. Big cats, small cats, I like 'em all.

2. What pets have you had in your lifetime? Dogs - Sparky, Casey, and Murphy; Cats - Callie and Missy (yes we have the y or ie thing going) Murphy and Missy are the current house hold shed machines

3. Is there any specific pet that you've wanted but never had? Why? I think having a pet cougar would be cool, but that's too cruel.

4. Are you allergic to any animals? I'm highly allergic to cats, I get sick when I go home on the weekends, but I suck it up bucause I like cats (as you may have read in #1) I think I might look into that Allerpet-C stuff Heather mentioned.

5. Do you have any 'pet' pet peeves (your pets or others')? I don't deal with animal puke. It just doesn't happen. And shedding. Shedding is bad, too.

E-mail E-nigma

Our school e-mail is web based but we do have a pop server set up. It works on Outlook Express on one of my friends computers and tonight I got it to work on Alexis' but it won't work on mine. Anybody have any ideas why that might be? I have a feeling it's not connecting to the network right but it says it's working online and IE works so why wouldn't outlook??

Friday Five???

The Friday Five is MIA at 10 after midnight. I'm going going to go watch Hoosiers now. I'll do the FF this afternoon.

Randomage

My comments have once again gone astray, but this time the code is still there but YACCS is down... I just can't win!

I know I didn't so my "Daily Thanksgiving" last night, but with coming home and hanging out and stuff I just didn't have time. I think it will be a Sun-Thurs night thing because those nights I'm usually around before midnight and can get it in. Also, I'm thinking of some other changes around here too. We'll see what happens.

I have the digital camera from school at home this weekend. Some pictures to come Sunday or Monday.

3.8.2002

hopefully with the update by Blog my comments won't go AWOL so often or maybe even not at all.

Some changes have (obviously) been made. The name, some design, some links (if these work, I'll add some more). I'm learning HTML, very very slowly, but I am picking it up by way of guess and check. Oh and I'm serioiusly having to reenter my comment code every day. it's ticking me off. It seems if I change one thing, everything else goes back to the way it was before. My archives keep disapearing too. Should I change to greymatter or something?

Friday Five

Here's this weeks Friday Five. As cliche as it is TGIF!!

#7 this week. movin on up!

1. What makes you homesick? Hmm.. not being able to spend time alone with Alexis in a comfortable place where we can just relax and talk. We can relax and talk here. But it's just not the same

2. Where is "home" for you? Is it where you are living now, or somewhere else (ie: Mom & Dad's house, particular state/city)? I sometimes consider here (the campus) my home. At least this year since I'm here so much. But it will never be home home. Mostly because of #1.

3. What makes it home for you? People? Things? Being able to find a place to be alone, like my room at home. Where I can just relax and listen to music. I also have more of a free life there i.e. curfew, living space

4. Where is the furthest you've been from home, miles-wise? however many florida is.

5. What are your plans for this weekend? GOING HOME!!! (How ironic for this five). Friday night is movie night, Sat I'm going with my parents to look at cars and try to find a bike I like. And Sunday it's Eric's B-day party then rushing back here for the Rebecca St. James concert!! A lot of stuff but a lot of fun!

3.7.2002

Waiting (almost) Patiently

I had my interview for the SGA position today. I have a feeling we'll find out the results, but as what seems like always (at least when I'm expecting something important) MVNC e-mail is down. :-p

Daily Thanksgiving

Another new feature to my beloved blog.
I was thinking last night and I don't tell people thanks enough.

So each day I will publically thank God and one person for one thing.
Even though I know a lot of the people I'll thank won't read this, I still think it's worth it.

Thank you symantec

I went out and bought Norton SystemWorks 2002 tonight. It's awesome. All the problems I had been having with my computer I was able to take care of (so far). I got a lot of stuff cleaned up and fixed and things are running smoother already. I haven't ran the Virus Scan yet. I'm scared to see what that comes up with! I'm going to hit it before I go to bed and see what I have in the morning. It already found that windos.exe thing I had to deal with years ago. I had to re-quarentine it after uninstalling Systemworks 2000. I had forgotten about that stupid virus. Crazy hackers.
